Join Troop 352

If you would like to join our troop just come to one of our meetings on Tuesdays starting at 7:30pm. The meetings are held at Locust Grove United Methodist Church in Salem Va. For directions contact the scoutmaster Carl Stump at scouting_is_fun@verizon.net.

Troop 352 has one of the most exciting programs of any troop in the area though we do have rules and policies we are pretty laid back and fun loving people, and we offer a great troop program to help you child advance in rank and learn the ideals of scouting so that he may become a better person. Read below for some answers to questions you may have.

The Uniform: Scouting is a uniformed organization and the Class A and Class B uniforms are worn at different times of the year. All official scouting activities require the wearing of the uniform. Below is a description of each uniform.

Class A; this is the more formal uniform that is worn from the first tuesday in October to the first tuesday in April. It consists of: the famous khaki shirt with all the correct patches in the correct places (short sleeved version is advised), a scout belt, scout shorts or pants, and scout socks. The merit badge sash and kneckerchief/slide are only required at courts of honors and other designated occasions.

Class B; this is more informal and is worn from the first tuesday in April to the first tuesday in October. It consists of: a scouting related shirt(a troop t-shirt is given to each scout when they join), scout shorts, a scout belt, and scout socks.

The scout uniform can be purchased at the scout shop in Roanoke on Valley View Blvd. visit www.bsa-brmc.org for directions, or you can order the uniform online at www.scoutstuff.org.

The boy led troop; Scouting is a boy led operation Troop 352 follows this policy and leaves much of the decision making and policies up to the boys. The troop has junior leaders who run certain aspects of the troop. Adults are only there to guide the scouts and provide support and asssistance to the program in the form of transportation and paying the fee. The Patrol Leaders Council is the chief junior governing body of the Troop.

The Cost; Scouting can be expensive when you think about the cost of uniforms and insignia and also the program. Troop 352 takes part in the annual trails end popcorn sale and this is our chief fundraiser. The way our troop handles the money that it gets to keep from the sales is that based on how much the scout sells the scout gets to keep a portion of that in its own personal account. If the scout sells enough then he will have enough money in his account to pay for most if not all of the camping trips he goes on during the year. Popcorn sales go from September through October. Also apart from the camping fees and uniform costs the troop asks for a yearly fee to help it cover the costs of it's operations including buying badges of rank and merit badges for your child when he earns them. The fee for scouts including a subscription to Boys life for a year is around $35 though with committee approval it can be increased or decreased.

Attendance; Your son does not have to be at every meeting or activity we have. Though you'll find that attendance is the key to advancement and reaching the full potential of involvement in the troops program. If you son plays sports or is in the band then of course we understand they have commitments to those activities. Just never forget that scouting is a year round thing that cannot be forgotten or put to the side.

This is where we meet!!!!
